Are you someone who needs access to broadband but does not want a landline? Do you always use a mobile to make phone calls? If you answer yes, then you may be wondering how you can get broadband without a landline. One option is home broadband, or HomeFi as it’s sometimes known.

Cutting the landline cord
When it comes to accessing broadband, most providers usually offer a fixed broadband service bundled with a phone line. Nowadays you probably make most of your calls using a smartphone and use messaging services to stay in touch with friends and family. You may, therefore, wonder why you need to pay for a landline to get broadband. With the availability of 4G, it’s now possible to get home broadband via the airwaves and be landline-free.

What is HomeFi?
HomeFi is a solution that removes the need for a landline. It offers access to fast broadband in the home using a wireless router connected to a 4G network. To use HomeFi, all you require is a SIM card, 4G router and a mobile signal. Once it’s set up, you can connect your devices to it and access the Internet.

Using HomeFi has advantages. The key one is its flexibility and that it’s quick and easy for you to set up home broadband. Unlike fixed-line broadband, you don’t have to wait for an engineer to connect up your broadband service. HomeFi offers other advantages such as:

  • Avoids having to pay for a phone line.
  • Fixes slow or unreliable download speeds offered by fixed broadband solutions.
  • Offers flexibility as you can take your HomeFi router with you and quickly set up a new connection.
  • It can be used in locations where cable broadband is not available or too costly to install.

On the downside, using HomeFi and 4G does mean you will need a good mobile signal. A poor signal or no signal will remove any of the advantages that come with HomeFi. As a result, it’s important that you know what sort of 3G/4G coverage you can receive.

Data Limits
How much data you can use depend on how you use broadband. Like fixed-line broadband, HomeFi also offer data download limits. It’s possible to sign up for a contract that allows you to download 10GB, 40GB, or 100GB of data each month. For heavy users, it’s possible to obtain data plans that provide unlimited data each month.

How much will it cost?
How much HomeFi costs depends on two things. The first is the length of the contract you sign up for. The second is the data plan you choose. Because of this, costs can vary. If you want unlimited data, this can cost £22 per month for a 24-month contract. For £30 per month, it’s possible to sign up for a 12-month contract that provides 100GB each month. If, however, you’re looking for flexibility then shorter contract plans as well as Pay As You Go are available. The problem with these type of contracts is that they tend to be more expensive. Depending on your contract there may be other upfront costs.

And Finally
For those wanting broadband without the need to purchase a landline, HomeFi provides an alternative solution. The speeds on offer with 4G mean it’s possible to receive a service that compares well with fixed-line broadband.
